Driveway Care

Helpful Hints for Your Driveway in Rockland County NY and Surrounding Areas

We at Perfection Paving Inc. would like to take this opportunity to say "Thank You" for choosing us to handle your asphalt needs. We have compiled a list of "Do's and Dont's" that we know from experience will ensure you get the longest life from your driveway. We hope that you will take a few minutes to look over the following suggestions. Macadam is a very durable material and will give you many years of satisfactory service if you follow the few simple steps we have outlined below:
Driveway Development — Finished Asphalt Way in Pearl River, NY
DO'S
  • A period of 3-5 days is suggested for staying off the driveway, but a week is even better!
  • It is Strongly recommended that you backfill the edges of the driveway with top soil to prevent the edges from breaking off and also to prevent rain water from seeping under the blacktop and causing damage. Try to avoid driving over the edge of the driveway, this can cause cracking.
DONT'S
  • Heavy trucks over 6000 pounds should Never go onto your driveway. Be sure to advise delivery services to park their heavy vehicles in the street. For example, furniture or landscaping deliveries should be made from the curb.
  • Asphalt and gasoline DO Not Mix! Gasoline or oil will kill a new driveway faster than you can yell, HELP! The best advice we can give you is to not allow it to happen in the first place.
  • DO NOT turn the steering wheel of your car while it is stopped! Doing this will cause scuff marks in the surface of the asphalt, and possibly some pebbling. Power steering marks do not cause any real damage other than to the appearance, so should this happen try not to be overly upset. Since there is no way to fix these scuff marks, and there is nothing that I can do to prevent this from happening, your driveway warranty does NOT include power steering marks. Again, do not turn the steering wheel unless your car is moving. Also, the marks should fade a little and become less noticeable as your driveway ages. If the marks continue to bother you, the only thing that might help would be to seal your driveway.
  • I also want to make you aware that macadam (blacktop) can soften when the temperature climbs. A little caution during hot spells will prevent any serious problems.
We hope that you find these tried and true hints helpful. Many thanks for your business, and please call should you have any other questions.
